Introduction

The Society is governed by a Board, which has overall responsibility for guiding the work and direction of the Society.

Board members are appointed with relevant skills and expertise in areas such as housing, building, finance, law and policy. The skills and expertise of Board members are reviewed annually and all members support and uphold the values, aims and objectives of the Society. We have adopted a strategy for the recruitment of Board members that seeks to create a board that is broadly representative of the population of the Cambridge area as a whole. The obligations and responsibilities of the Board are:

To uphold the values and objectives of the Society
To uphold the Society’s core policies including its equality policy
To contribute to and share decisions for the Boatd’s decisions
To prepare for and attend meetings and other events
To represent the Society on occasion
To declare any relevant conflict of interest
To respect confidentiality of information
To uphold the principles of the NHFs code of Governance

Status

The King Street Housing Society Limited is an Industrial and Provident Society with Charitable status, and a registered social landlord. The Society complies with the National Housing Federation ’s Code of Governance. The objective of the Society is to meet housing needs in the Cambridge area and to provide an excellent housing service. The Society aims to find affordable housing solutions by new build, rehabilitation, leasing, low cost home ownership and other methods specifically designed for people on lower incomes in Cambridge and surrounding areas.

Shareholders

The Society has 36 shareholding members. All members of the Board are shareholders. Applications for shareholding membership should be made in writing to the Board. The Board will accept as new shareholders all those who will help the Society to become representative of the local community whilst fulfilling its obligations to manage the Society ’s affairs with competence and effectiveness.

The Board meets approximately seven times each year, with an annual training day and a business planning day in addition. An Audit Sub-Committee supports the work of the Board.
The Board includes up to two tenant members.
